3. Ship data For the purpose of analysis, an ultimate strength for as-built and corrosion affected scantlings is calculated for a bulk carrier. The bulk carrier is made of the following steels: AH-32 (min. yield strength 315 N/mm 2 ) and AH-36 (min. yield strength 355 N/mm 2 ). Modulus of elasticity is 206000 N/mm 2 and Poisson’s ratio as 0.3. The length overall of the ship is 180 m, the breadth is 30 m and the height is 14.7 m. Spacings of most of the longitudinals are 800 mm, whilst the transverse structure distance is 2.4 m. The ship is longitudinally framed. The subdivision of the cross section into segments with designated stress-strain curve, according to procedure defined in this paper, is shown in Fig. 1. In Fig. 2, a general outline of the ship is shown with a highlighted part subjected to incremental curvature and bending moment.
