3. Application of GTN parameters to standard CT specimen After the GTN parameters were determined, they were applied to standard CT specimens of normal size (1TCT). The specimens were prepared with two pre-crack sizes (P1: 23.8mm and P2: 24.2mm). The finite element mesh is illustrated in Figure 5 where the boundary conditions are also shown (symmetries and load). The pin was interpreted as a rigid body and was meshed with a 100 µm element size in the crack region.

The GTN parameters were applied to both specimens and both the LLD-F curves and crack propagation were compared with the test results, as illustrated in Figure 6. The results showed good agreement.
