Fig. 1. Rollover accident and its standardized testing and simulation.

The Regional Technological Institute, a research center of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of West Bohemia, provides static and fatigue tests of materials, joints, and construction nodes of bus bodywork. Recently, in addition to the tests of material samples, two interesting tests of structural parts of the body were carried out for the domestic bus manufacturer, SOR Libchavy. As part of the M-ERA.NET international project, a similar collaboration of several Czech participants is taking place, this time with the Polish bus producer Solaris Bus and Coach. This project investigates the possibility of reinforcing the body with glued composite tapes. 2. Mechanical tests of basic materials and structural joints Some tests were carried out according to standardized procedures; in some cases, it was necessary to design test specimens, test loading, and evaluation methods. In all cases, digital data was transmitted from the control electronics of the test machines for further use in computer simulations of the performed experiments. Most tests were also recorded to visually compare the physical tests with their computer simulations. In the following photographs and schematic graphs, the tests carried out in order to obtain material parameters for the computer simulation of a rollover bus with a sandwich roof are presented.
