Fig. 12 shows the crack path predicted by programs BemCracker2D with BEM and Quebra2D with FEM. The initial mesh of the FEM model comprises 1995 elements and 4185 nodes and, in the final propagation step, this has increased to 2585 elements and 5467 nodes, while the BEM increased from 62 to 114 elements and 124 to 228 nodes.

Fig. 13 shows the results obtained with BC2D compared to analytical ones from the literature [21] for the SEN with no hole.
