and applied mechanics, fluid and gas mechanics, and mechanics of solids. Over the five days of work, more than 1,100 reports were presented at subsections and symposiums. The program inclu ded 12 plenary 40-minute reports on current problems in mechanics. Among the speakers and experts are 18 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 31 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and almost 300 young scientists. A competition was held among young scientists participating in the con gress for the best report, the winners of which were 35 young researchers and graduate stu dents. As part of the work of the section Mecha nics of Solids, the work of the subsection Mecha nics of Fracture and Damage was organized, headed by prof. Oleg Plekhov and prof. Valery Shlyannikov. This subsection included 40 oral and 60 poster presentations.
