Working Group Meeting Mixed Mode, 7.7.2023 in Kassel The influence of material properties and the resulting inhomogeneities and anisotropies are discussed in detail. In the field of numerical simulation, the focus is on applications for pre dicting crack growth in spatial structures. On the experimental side, many contributions make use of DIC for crack (length) detection. Other papers present new methodological approaches for the description and simulation of mixed-mode crack growth. The possible applications of the virtual element method (VEM) in fracture mechanics are discussed as well as a symbolic regression based on Williams series expansion. Michael Vormwald

The evaluation and avoidance of fracture and damage processes play an essential role in the construction and design of components and sys tems as well as for the development of materials suitable for use in order to ensure technical safety, service life and economic efficiency. The aim of the meeting is to provide infor mation on scientific progress and modern tech nical developments in the fields of fracture and damage mechanics and to exchange experiences. Germany

Italian Group of Fracture (IGF) activities In 2023, IGF supported the organisation of the “3rd European Conference on the Structural Integrity of Additively Manufactured Materials - ESIAM23” (September 4-6, 2023, Porto - Portugal & Web) in presence. With more than 102 abstracts received, 103 participants (more than 88 in presence) from 28 different countries, the event was really successful!!!

Venue of the 3rd European Conference on the Structural Integrity of Additively Manufactured Materials - ESIAM23 During the Conference, five young researchers, that is Marion Coffignez, Rosario Borrelli, Kristen Bobo, Andrea Zanichelli and Elena Zoncato, were awarded for the “Best presentation award”.
