2.2. Extended back-face strain compliance Inspired by the work of Newman et al (J. Newman et al., 2011), the BFS compliance is characterized as the non dimensional strain compliance function ′ . ′ = ( ) ( 1 ) Here, is the back-face strain, is Young ’ s modulus and is the applied stress range. Fig. 4 shows the back-face strain (BFS) compliance obtained numerically for crack length to width ratios 0.05 ≤ / ≤ 0.6 .
