distilled water and left to dry at room temperature, according to ASTM G1-03 standard. The tensile tests were carried out in accordance with ASTM E8/E8M standard while the impact energy tests were carried out in accordance with ASTM E23-18 standard. Hardness and impact energy tests were conducted on the machined specimens to determine the size of each of the butt-welded joint areas: base metal, heat affected zone and weld metal and toughness parameter, Fig.2.

2.3. Microscopical surface investigation In order to examine the state of the specimen surface at the weld metal zone, heat affected zone and base metal, an optical microscope as well as a scanning electron microscope (SEM FEI Quanta 250) were used, Fig. 3. In-depth analysis of the experimental results can be found in Vukelic et al. (2021), ( 2022).
