Changeof Electrical Potential during Fatigue

The change in the electrical potential under cyclic shear stress amplitude of 180MPain

case A for SUSis shown in Fig. 3(a), where the electrical potential was normalized by

the initial value. The number of stress cycles at point where the electrical potential

shows a rapid increase is considered to indicate crack initiation. It is interesting to note

that N C specimen shows the earliest rise in the electrical potential, followed by N B

specimen and N Aspecimen. The crack initiation life is shorter as the notch gets sharper.
